TRIMMING NAILS  

 

Nail trims are a very important part of home health for your pet. Be careful when trimming a pets toe nails because some pets will bite out of fear when this is performed. If this is the case, have a professional perform this service. To trim your pet’s nails, do the following:

1. Love on your pet and make him/her feel secure.

2. Get a pair of high-quality nail cutters.

3. Condition your pet by rubbing his/her feet.

4. In a pet with white nails, cut the nails below the quick (this can be seen as a red line inside the nail).

5. In a pet with dark nails, take off just the tip.

6. In the event you cut a nail too short, place flour on the tip, and do not get bit.

7. If your pet has a broken nail, seek veterinary attention.
